A former attorney turned creative entrepreneur, Bernardo has built a second career in filmmaking that blends discipline, storytelling, and global collaboration. Born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, Bernardo grew up with an adventurous spirit. A daily BMX and mountain bike rider in his youth, he developed a mindset centered on endurance, focus, and forward motion—qualities that later shaped both his legal and creative careers. He earned his law degree from Universidad Regiomontana and was a partner in a law firm from 2008 to 2022. In 2013, while still practicing law, he began directing and producing documentary films. What started as a creative pursuit quickly evolved into an award-winning filmmaking career. Bernardo is the director and producer behind internationally acclaimed documentaries including The Weekend Sailor and The Michoacán File. His work has received numerous honors worldwide, including recognition from prestigious festivals and institutions such as the James Beard Foundation and the Newport Beach Film Festival (Best Documentary). His films have screened globally and been featured at high-profile events in Europe and North America. Throughout his filmmaking journey, Bernardo has collaborated with globally recognized figures. For The Weekend Sailor, he worked with Simon Le Bon, lead singer of Duran Duran, and world champion sailors. The film was also showcased at exclusive Salvatore Ferragamo events in Italy and Finland. For The Michoacán File, he worked with actor Danny Trejo and renowned chefs featured in the documentary. Today, Bernardo is a partner in a post-production studio and continues to focus on directing and producing documentary films that aim to captivate audiences worldwide. He believes filmmaking is about immersion: “My goal is to make people sit down, forget about themselves, and enjoy a story.” Outside of filmmaking, Bernardo is passionate about enduro mountain biking, sailing, skiing, cooking, and acting. Above all, he values family, happiness, and creative freedom. His work reflects dedication, certainty, constancy, and creativity—principles that guide both his personal and professional life.
